Mother's Day at the Zoo

For the last 25 years on Mother's Day, the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans has offered free admission for mothers and a free concert by New Orleans' own Irma Thomas. This year attracted the biggest crowd yet.

I was so thristy while standing in line that I almost drank diet citrus green tea, but I would have had to give up my spot, so I didn't.

I couldn't figure out how to take advantage of the shuttle, and I'd already made the long walk in from my streetside parking in what seemed to be a neighboring city.

Enormous live oaks abound on the Audubon Zoo grounds, which double as a botanical garden.

Finally I found my wife and daughter inside and met "Stanley" the stinging caterpillar.

No Louisiana concert is complete without a Second Line dance. I was too tired to get my backfield in motion.

The dress code was ultra-casual. Sorry I couldn't get a front view of the blonde for you.

Irma sings from a repertoire of hundreds of songs, and sometimes needs a little help with the lyrics.

Okay, I'm back. I will have to start waiting a while after I see your post, so I don't miss all the photos. Love the trees in the 11th shot. I would like to put in a request. Please take some more photos of trees like these and post them. I know they are all over Louisiana....right? Lovely day and family:) ps Your narratives just crack me up. Your sense of humor just bleeds through your posts...and that's a good thing:)
