Take Me Back to Massachusetts - Day 24

2008.06.30
Against Sac's direction we drove back to Canastota (aka Can-of-soda) to take a picture of the purple house on Main St. (Photo credit to Kallie)

Which allowed us to get a shot of Graziano's Italian Restaurant too (photo credit to Erin)

The water not seen in this picture is the Hudson River.

We drove more than 3,000 miles from Baton Rouge to see this sign.

We weren't sure what this body of water was--maybe the Housatonic River. In any event, the waterfront houses were pretty.

The Foothills Grill was a blessed discovery at lunchtime in Huntington, MA. Western Massachusetts was otherwise seemingly closed to the public on a midday Monday.

This is all the roadside advertising that the local authorities allow the Foothills Grill to do. Kay's determination was the only reason that we found it.

Oh my God, I'm still shaking at the thought of cars driving (and passing other cars) in the breakdown lane during rush hour on I-95 west of Boston. I can't imagine what one would do if they had a flat tire.

This truck is driving in the breakdown lane next to an I-95 on ramp. (photo credit to Kallie on the last two)

Here's a near gold medal parking job - straight (almost) and centered between the lines. Yes, I have a handicap placard.

The wonderful Hampton Inn shuttle bus that takes us to and picks us up from the Quincy Adams "T" station.

Looking up from inside at a Boston skyscraper.

Looking down from the Prudential Tower Skydeck at the Christian Science campus

Boston flora and fauna

Here's what the cowboy marketers were handing out. Expand the picture and you'll be able to read it.

My choice for AL first baseman on the All-Star team - Kevin Youkilis, aka Youk, aka "The Greek God of Walks".

This sign caught my eye because the minister at my church is named Steve Crump. The tour guide told us that Shreve, Crump and Low is the oldest jewelry store in the city.

I got a better picture of the Boston Common sign than I did of the Common itself.

This imposing edifice, used as a set in the film "The Departed" is the Boston Police Headquarters.

The Patriots hope not to use their services too often.

These rowers were patients at the rehab hospital--very imaginative therapy.

Erin took her turn at the helm of the Frog Pond Lily.

Bridge inspectors are likely to determine that this bridge needs paint.

No word on the nature of this structure, but I got a clear shot of it.

I saw that sign on Cheers!

Ivy-covered wall at Ivy League school

Walking the extra block helped us find and eat dinner at Joe Tecce's in the North End rather than at an Irish pub or sports bar near TD Banknorth Garden.

We got up early and drove from Oneida to Braintree, MA, our command center for sightseeing in the Boston area--my first trip to Massachusetts since a 1972 family trip to Cape Cod. Here are some pictures from the road...

and from the next day's trip to Boston.
