Behind me are hundreds of Scrabble players.

We used the Zyzyva Word Judge program to adjudicate challenged words.
|
This banner flies at every NSC, except when the event was renamed the US Scrabble Open.

Even the Royal Pacific frog caught Scrabble fever.
|
The sad news after 22 games, that's me in 123rd place...things didn't get much better thereafter.

I made both ToRNaDIC and RELENTED on the way to victory in Game 24 right before lunch. My opponent helped by playing HICKY on her last play, a word that I challenged off.

The simple word WINTER turned out to be a key play in the last game. I won by going out with my next word, AWEE. And the crowd goes wild! My opponent said that may early play of KAY was a good omen for me. I'll spare you pictures of my five losses on Tuesday. I finished at 10-18, near the bottom of the Division 2 standings.

This unassuming chap is Division I champion Nigel Richards from Malaysia. Richards is now both the reigning world champion and US champion, an amazing feat given that the two championships are played with different dictionaries.

Here's how the board looked at the end of the championship game. Bingos include SERRYING, SARCINAE, and INNERVED. I'll have to look on the NSA site to see if PENATES and KINGLET were bingos.

The fellow on the right is runner-up Brian Cappelletto, a former US champion and probably the best player in the US.

I promise, that's all the Scrabble content for a long while--at least until October when the Baton Rouge tournament takes place.

Cool this final set will motivate me to play scrabble again. Did you see a lot of youth playing ? it is such a great way to improve vocabulary , knowledge, challenge and Fun with people

I have never heard of the NSC! This is very interesting. Definitely keep us posted. I think I'm going to go pull out my Scrabble board:)
