The vertical view of the well. The well composed of eight slabs of stone and eight stone posts.On the top of each post,there's a stone lotus as decorations.Inside the well,on the east,west,north and south side of the wall,there's a statue of god inlaid.

Xiaomu,mother of Zhu Youtang,the emperor of Ming Dynasty,came from He Town,northeast Guangxi,she used to live near the well before she went into imperial palace in Beijing.She was killed by Wan,a concubine of the emperor when Zhu Youtang was six years old.
After Zhu Youtang became the emperor,he built a temple in Guilin and rebuilt the well to commemorate his mother.

关于明孝宗皇帝生母孝穆皇太后的生平，在正史中并没有详细记述，只有寥寥几句：
《明史 本纪第十五 孝宗》："母淑妃纪氏，成化六年七月生帝于西宫。......十一年，......是年六月，淑妃暴薨，帝年六岁，哀慕如成人。"
据蔡东藩《明史演义》第四十回中描述，纪妃系贺县人（今广西贺州地区），本土官女，饶有姿色，性亦灵敏，蛮中推为女中选。成化三年，西南蛮部作乱，襄城伯李瑾及尚书程信等，督师往讨，先后焚蛮寨二千，俘获男女无算。纪女亦被俘至京，充入掖庭。
又据《明史 本纪第十三 宪宗一》："三年......六月......辛酉，襄城伯李瑾为征夷将军，充总兵官，兵部尚书程信提督军务，太监刘恒监军，讨山都掌蛮。"
由于淑妃纪氏初为南蛮被俘进宫，生平几无可考，而在当时，关于她的一切也并不重要。但有一点是毋庸质疑的，即纪氏为万贵妃所害。孝宗即位后，派专人到桂东北一带遍寻母亲遗亲，但均无所获。唯寻得昔日母亲进京前居住停歇之处及饮用过的一口水井，于是重修水井，并修有一庙（庙宇已毁），以纪念母亲。
