107/365 - My Wish For A Future "TI" Theme*

2011.04.17

Diversity is indeed a beautiful thing!
pixel
What you are about to read is humor and satire. Any resemblance to actual situations or real people is purely coincidental! And if it does resemble actual situations or real people, then they are not for real!!
*************************************************
I’ve managed to combine some current subject matter that I have been working on, which is shooting “colorful bags” in Philadelphia, with what I hope will be a FUTURE TI post on Photo Blog on the theme of “Diversity”.

I just know that this colorful bag shot will come in handy IF that theme ever arises.

I had no hand in the material arrangement of this image. This image comes from the shots that I took yesterday as I looked for colorful bags.

NOW, let me make this perfectly clear. IF the theme of “Diversity” ever does come up as the TI Theme on Photo Blog in the future, my intention WILL NOT BE to make a statement that the multicolored bag is a metaphor for diversity.

Anyone who does come to that conclusion, will get short shrift** from me because I would never reduce the profound meaning and value of human diversity to the base level of a colorful bag (as opposed to previous posts in which I have made such comparisons concerning much less important and less sensitive matters).

I will not be pleased if there are comments in which there are posters whining (actually a commenter whining - like I have been accused of doing on occasion) over something that will not be my intention. That will cause me to give a disproportionate response for which I will have to apologize later if it should become an issue.

Thank you in advance for believing this important, but obviously ridiculous explanation of my future non-intentions.

Lesson Learned: There are some explanations, both before and after the fact, that are hard to believe.
*********************************************************
* If you don't follow or understand the narrative, don't worry, very few people are intended to be able to understand it. So please just enjoy the picture of diversity at its best that I took in Philadelphia. Enjoy the colorful bag as well that is such a wonderful, coincidental compliment to this great example of diversity in our great city!

Please do not be offended that you are not one of the very select individuals for whom this post is intended. You should be grateful.

Alternate Lesson Learned: One thing that everyone can believe in is that diversity is all around us and it is a great thing !!!

**Meaning of Short Shrift
To make short work of - to give little consideration to.

Origin
Shrift? Not a word you hear every day. In fact, apart from in this expression, it is now so rarely used that it's hard to think of a shrift that isn't short. The verb form, shrive, is also now an almost forgotten antique. A shrift is a penance (a prescribed penalty) imposed by a priest (oh dear - a priest!) in a confession in order to provide absolution, often when the confessor was near to death. In the 17th century, criminals were sent to the scaffold immediately after sentencing and only had time for a 'short shrift' before being hanged.

Shakespeare was the first to write it down, in Richard III, 1594.

Jarvo I like this shot and I thank you for an explanation of the word shrift. Now at least I understand that short shrift is favourable to long shrift!
