296/365 - Occupy Philly Protest* #1 - Signs + Cat Hat Update

2011.10.23
pixel
Lesson Learned: Protest signs are usually the tip of an iceberg named "Lack of Love & Respect"

* Occupy Philly is a protest like that on Wall Street, NY and has spread across the USA and the world. It is a protest against many different issues, mainly corporate greed. I spent a couple of hours immersed in the protest site in Philadelphia (the courtyard of City Hall). It was an intense and very depressing experience in which hopelessness and despair was as thick as a fog. It is a place where violence is ripe to erupt as many people there have little to lose.

marilynx What shocked Solzhenitsyn when he came to the west was how we were all into our rights and not our duty ... DUTY is a dirty word nowadays.
Informative post... the same is going on outside St Paul's Cathedral.

demarc nice set, well done:-)
demarc · 2011-10-23: 05:34
helys Great daily realities nowadays !
Interesting, sadness
Thanks for sharing dan
helys · 2011-10-23: 05:47
lyricalthoughts dear dan.. very disheartening issues nowadays. it's everywhere where people are still struggling to find hope and solution to this diminishing world. i only hope that we could somehow help one another. You know in our own small ways we might shed some hope to those who are in need. Btw, if i am not mistaken I have messaged you that I will be routing my cat hat to allaboutmacky...

renatomartins Very impressive post.
renatomartins · 2011-10-23: 06:29
karmankwarner I live in such a rural area that this does not appear to be affecting us to date; but I believe that before it is over it will affect us all. It is sad to see that we have been brought to this state of affairs by a greedy few.
The really sad part of all these occupations is that I doubt those that need to notice are actually paying attention.....
Nicely Captured.
karmankwarner · 2011-10-23: 07:27
tomie powerful report Dan! well done!
tomie · 2011-10-23: 07:28
bumpusdogs great bunch of shots Dan! I really like the metaphor of #10 with the sign for education in a trash bin... :)
bumpusdogs · 2011-10-23: 07:41
mallusatish Very important Issues to Be answered Dan it the problem of the whole world the rich are getting richer and poor getting poorer, very powerful post~!~
mallusatish · 2011-10-23: 07:54
Annbramwell All important issues, but will they ever be solved?
Annbramwell · 2011-10-23: 08:27
HoosierAtHeART What a great commentary you have captured! There is certainly frustration in our country. I can't blame them....I don't complain about paying taxes because I understand they are paying for police, roads, defense and such. But when I here about the rich and businesses getting away with paying hardly no taxes it makes me mad!
HoosierAtHeART · 2011-10-23: 08:48
jennyLit great set Dad! though it makes me wonder.... will these people be cleaning up all the trash and litter that they are leaving all over our city once they decided to "unoccupy" maybe a good follow up shoot:)
jennyLit · 2011-10-23: 09:43
breizh More and more deep ditch ... every day ... everywhere ...
Powerful set my friend !
breizh · 2011-10-23: 10:05
????? Some I understand, some I don't. All of the litter I see in the shots make me want to grab a sign and picket for litter issues!! The "don't talk to the police or FB"I sign scares me~ there are officers who put their life in harms way almost everyday of their life and so no one will trust them?? very sad, very sad
????? · 2011-10-23: 10:11
????? Great Post and great captures Dan...as always.

jeffcornish Very cool series. I can see why you were excited about being there. A treasure trove!
jeffcornish · 2011-10-23: 10:31
girafferacing You're braver than I was last weekend - I only sneaked into the Occupy London demo for a few minutes - with 500 or more police around I was keen not to get trapped if things flared up! It's turned out to be remarkably peaceful thankfully.
girafferacing · 2011-10-23: 11:13
MARETKA88 crazy cool post
MARETKA88 · 2011-10-23: 11:24
MoMac Sad that these issues have to be put over in this way . I wonder the same as you daughter .
MoMac · 2011-10-23: 11:42
gonia I don't understand all papers - but in many fields people are right. Personally me, I see in black future.
Thanks to God and polish post - the way between Gdynia and Berlin my cathat went during 14 days. But as I remember my Christmas card to Marsha in the USA last year went from Gdynia in normal letter 3 months - I was very happy she was there not for Easter, but some time before. But the same card send to Poznan to my family in Poland never reach this place!
gonia · 2011-10-23: 11:56
????? Wow, pretty intense.. You certainly captured some good candid shots of what is going on around America....
????? · 2011-10-23: 12:03
honzicek Great set Dan!
Reminder to all how low our imaginary ship is flying…..
honzicek · 2011-10-23: 12:37
SheriJ There seems to be a significant rise in unrest around the world. I guess that's why my husband and I decided to move 70 miles from the city and chose to live in the middle of nowhere. Times are scary for sure. The litter is upsetting also. Who picks up after all these protesters leave?
SheriJ · 2011-10-23: 12:40
livelovelaugh Living and working in NYC, this is a very real issue that I know I am feeling with each toll hike and the continuous, consistent loss in my retirement fund. I think people are listening, but it's just way too deep. Thank you for this look into how Philly is participating. Great post, Dan. :)
livelovelaugh · 2011-10-23: 13:02
????? So sad, very depressing... and thought provoking post, Dan.

So sad, unfair and criminal that USA spent 1,000 BILLIONS DOLLARS in Iraqi war, while the same USA government:

* NEVER found the necessary money for taking finally the First Peoples (survived to the hughest genocide of human history) out of the circle of poverty where they threw them;

* NEVER found the necessary money to take millions of Americans out of their analphabetism - the cost of University studies in the USA are even the highest in the whole world;

* NEVER found the necessary money to take millions of Americans out of the mafia of the private life and health insurances;

* ... the list is long... and you have also the death penalty, as maybe you believe of being God... and you believe of being a democracy...

I can't see the American dream... I just see and feel THE AMERICAN NIGHTMARE...

Good luck to you, too !! You do need.

Worldwide, there are so many sorrows and grief....everything is a battle for survival !
Davorka · 2011-10-23: 20:58
Keryl Wow Dan. What a great job you did covering the protest and your shots are just perfect.
Unfortunately, Corporations aren't the only *greedy* ones. And greed is not the only problem. Governmental Waste ranks right up there too...
Keryl · 2011-10-23: 21:13
joycephotography Powerful post Dan.
joycephotography · 2011-10-24: 00:24
