6/366 - Photo Technique (?) Challenge: (((((Trash/Waste)))))

Garbage is a love of mine.

Lesson Learned #1: When a passion is developed for "something", regardless of what that something is, there is the desire to present it to others in the best way possible - techniques evolves.

Lesson Learned #2: One person's garbage is another person's prize.

Lesson Learned #3: One person's garbage is another person's meal.

Lesson Learned #4: Every passion pines for procedures for perfect presentation - PTECHNIQUES. (Is that alliteration???) ........... ;-))))))

One Armed Joe circa 1964

Early in the morning in soiled, pinstriped work overalls he came.

One Armed Joe. It was Missing at the shoulder.

His roaring, battered dump truck lurching down the narrow alley - grinding to a halt.

Face grimy, hair shining and eyes glaring. Crashing to the ground from the cab.

A claw of a hand grabbing the handles of smashed and dented cans of waste and filth.

Hoisting them effortlessly - contents adding to the stinking mess in the bed of the truck.

“Later, Joe!”

A Nod.

Down the alley only to repeat again and again. Roar, crash, hoist…

At the dump – my pellet gun in hand – taking aim on giant rats – boom – boom - boom!

Tails like snakes, teeth like razors. Crawling all around.

Beady eyes.

Rainbows of who knows what, floating on putrid puddles.

To the incinerator – hotter than the fires of hell. White hot.

Surrounded by an audience of waiting rats, there sat Joe and his mates – filthy each and every one.

Swigging whiskey and beer and gambling and cussing and spitting and smoking.

Pictures of naked girls hanging on the grimy walls.

A wink from Joe meaning it’s time to “push another box of shit into the hole to burn.”

Looking down for a second as the heap is swallowed by the flames.

Burning my face – jumping back.

A rat licking a tossed beer bottle.

When a young boy plays at the dump around the likes of Joe, his mates and the rats, garbage is a fond memory.

I love trash and garbage!

How I wish I carried a camera rather than a gun into that dump as a boy.

me 1/7/12

Ryana Not only wastel in the foreground, also trash in the background.
Great for this Challenge!

ArtBee What an amazing story Dan! This one armed Joe must have been a very interesting character. He provided a service not many people would do and gained the admiration of a little boy, just doing his job. That pizza looks good to me....great shot and story. You are a very interesting character yourself......
ArtBee · 2012-01-06: 07:32
mattmckenna Dan what can I say, it's a load of garbage, sorry I could not resist that, forgive me! I am with you on that one, we need to wise up to this waste. In Britain they have got rid of the some of the dates that are put on food, which can only be good, use some commonsense and stop throwing food out. Dan that looked like a good pizza
mattmckenna · 2012-01-06: 07:43
