190/366 - To Those Risking Aloneness

2012.07.09
pixel
The hearty runners at the start of a 15/30 kilometer trail race. Eyes ahead. Ready to be alone with themselves and the hills and the heat. (place cursor on photo to see notes)

Lesson Learned: People who find satisfaction in being alone - sometimes find themselves being happy together - if they are lucky.

Remembering Aloneness

You stand at that line...
Part of a pack.
Compressed and tight –
Yet alone – looking ahead.

Why would I?
Why should I?
But I will… again –
This race will be – different

But - when the gun cracks…
Legs wobble and buckle – again
Ready to snap – in half
A mile of nausea – passes.

The invisible fickle forces –
Gravity and grit...
Befriend or assassinate me.
The miles must be run - again.

After time -
And time again...
The lesson finally learned -
Experience and enjoy - regardless.

DancingDolphin Congratulations to your son... I admire people who have the ability to train for things like this.... it isn't in my biological or mental make up. 8^)

HoosierAtHeART Love the post, great poem and it is a very solemn sport. I used to run, but never did 18 miles, 10K's was my limit.
