Never Forget

2007.09.11
World Trade Center - 4th September, 2001

This image was taken exactly one week before these magnificent buildings and more than 3000 people were taken from us - 6 years ago today. I had just been up to the observation deck and chatted about the start of the new football season to the lady who operated the lift on the way down.

I remember sitting at my desk at lunchtime London-time when the news began to break. Apart from being stunned, the first thing I thought about was that lady...

I have since been back to Ground Zero and I look forward to the rejuvination of the site.

This is not meant as a sentimental or maudling message, but I believe we should not forget events like 9/11 but try to understand why they happen and how they can be avoided - and I don't mean by steel and bombs and wars. Two wrongs don't make a right.

krx72 thanks for sharing your view - these great towers full of such life standing majestic unaware of what lied ahead - they look so strong and impenetrable (like america) - we know differently now

chrisfly I remember coming home from work, getting ready for coaching my soccerteam that day, and putting on the tv, and there it was all over every channel, it had just happened, Like every other nation Norway stopped that afternoon, it moved the whole world. I think that poeple all over the world are sharing and remembering, I agree it is important to not forget. Your photo is also superb, as always...

heikki Those towers were a true masterpiece of architecture.

I watched a documentary of the happenings yesterday. I've seen several documentaries several times but they always pull me up short.
