Mission Impossible

Read this while playing in your mind the theme music to Mission Impossible.

Yesterday I was a man on a mission.... and I failed hopelessly.

I have been asked to take a photograph of someone's apartment. She lives in a converted warehouse on the river called Globe Wharf and she wants a black and white picture.
"What could be easier?", I hear you ask.

But.... and there's always a "but" isn't there? I have learned from bitter experience that the devil is in the detail.

Let's talk clouds. Did you know there are such things as "happy clouds"? And these aren't just any old clouds with a smiley face Photo-Shopped into them! They are just white and fluffy enough to add interest to a sky but not so dense as to look foreboding and these are the type I have to have in the picture... and no boats (it's a river for god's sake!)... and no other buildings.... blah blah blah!

Did I tell you she has clear ideas about what she likes?

So I went down to Canary Wharf full of good intentions with a plan to walk along the river to Wapping which is directly across the river from Globe Wharf.

The weather was great... the sky perfectly fluffy. However, I was mischievously waylaid by a friend who insisted on a pie and a pint in the pub. Then two other friends dragged me into a coffee shop... don't these people work???

Anyway, by the time I eventually set off for Wapping - crisis.... the weather had completely changed. Now I had these turbid, dramatic clouds which JMW Turner would have thought magnificent but frankly, just don't fit the bill for what I needed.

So, I guess I'll have to make another trip down there and next time not tell anyone I'm going.... no pubs, no beer and definitely no pies :)

sandmoon · 2008-06-18: 12:35
burbulz oh, you are better than W.Somerset Maugham.
I guess she just wanted to see you again - so she made up those "happy clouds":)

cavist The clouds are just magnificient! Or is it the second pint that makes it... A good story and a good shot to support it! And those shots of the flat... well, obviously they have to wait. Btw, the same place viewed from the river is totally different (see: barge)
