Can you stop the world? I want to get off for a while....

2008.12.29

Sometimes the modern, lifestyle with its non-stop hustle, bustle and complications just seems a little too much and, perhaps especially at this time of year, when one is faced with the blizzard of commercialism and the frantic wailings of retailers to spend, spend, spend I crave for just the opposite - a quiet time, slow time, a time to reflect and just relax.... surely I can't be the only one who wants to get off for a while. Can I?

redro I just didn't do any Christmas shopping in the last few years, still I had a lot to give to my friends :)..starting with company and laughter and ending with...yes, gifts. But bought during the year and saved in my "treasure "chest !
I find this kind of store so charming and it always makes me go inside and buy a bit of this and that, it looks like a store with edible toys ...I would spend hours checking up everything !

burbulz you can celebrate in your own way - slowly and quietly. or not celebrate at all.

this year I didn't send my "christmas letter" for friends - as my joy of life was dead. but that doesn't mean that I won't celebrate christmas in august.

longimanus It would surprise me if you find one who can stop the world. But yes, you are free to get off. It will probably have its price, but I beleive we are free. Is this a pub?:-)

ClaudePechabaden Get off... For a little while? Someone told me about gentle breathing once, to reach the soul... Lovely picture, David.

KerBear It's nice to be able to get off for a while. I'm off work for the week so I'm taking as much time as I can to just sit back, relax and take it easy.... today I went out to spend some gift cards.... but other than that I'm enjoying staying in on the couch where it's warm and quiet...

DancingDolphin Today all of the kids left, the tree came down, and yes the world slowed down as we walked along the river. It's good to keep in mind that everything is temporary EXCEPT 'getting off'. :)
