Watching the watchers...

2009.01.02

Yesterday at the New Year's Day parade my favourite picture was not of the parade at all but of this guy watching it from the other side of the road.

Who likes conventional pictures anyway?

makaid I like it. Peoples reactions are sometimes more interesting than the stimulous.

redro Your shot is definitely "higher and cleaner" than mine!
I like it a lot. It's so melancholic..and a bit "from a different era"...
I can see a shadow of a smile behind his hand, but it's even better when you don't know "the story" of what he's watching.
I like that you included the street lamp and that slice of brick work in the comp, it adds a lot.
And most of all I like the placement of the person right in the center without any hesitation. A straightforward effective shot.

DancingDolphin Nice. Interesting how his black clothing make him 'disappear' into the background except for his face and hands.... I bet this would be another very good shot zoomed in on him.

ClaudePechabaden Much better! Never mind the parade, I am sure there are plenty of photos of those anyway. Not many people will have this picture! This is conventionally arty and a conventionally very good picture, do you mind?

eljapa Very well seen, this is a picture that really draws attention. I wouldn't zoom in on him, its perfect as it is. I agree with Redro's good comment.
