Welcome change or brutal intrusion...?

You will know if you have seen any of my posts that I am interested in architecture both old and new. But I don't just hark back to the "good old days" - some of my favourite buildings are ultra-modern such as 20, St Mary Ax (the Gherkin) in London or the Casa da Musica in Porto.

So when I went to Bruges last week I was interested to see the Concertgebouw - Bruges' concert hall, designed by architects Paul Robbrecht and Hilde Daem, and opened in February 2002 as part of the city's European City of Culture celebrations. As a music venue it is equipped with state-of-the-art technology making for excellent acoustics.

But, you know, I'm not sure I like it. It's interesting but it just doesn't move me.
