Come with me on a rickshaw ride....

2009.04.28
...through the back-streets of Old Delhi

It was very early so still quiet...

Typical electrical supply configuration... yes, power cuts are common

al fresco breakfast...

Chips anyone?

What about some fresh fruit and veg?

Or perhaps some fireworks... interesting brand name!

redro Striking contrast from the majestic elegance of Taj to the entangled look of these back streets.
I notice more the absence of women, the unhappy faces of men, the poor houses and shops ...all in one - the hardship of a life. Touching portray of the ordinary which "regular tourists" seem to miss.

peregol Beautiful post!

longimanus no.3 made me smile broadly... no, not because its pretty, but because it reminded me of the electric short cut in my apartmant in Egypt actually causing a little fire and our TV destroyed. the content of our electric box looked very similar to this jungle here... thanks for the ride, by the way. the trip was exciting, colorful, full of life:-)

DancingDolphin Fascinating... and like everyone else, I'm glad you pointed the camera UP for #3, what a great shot!

sunshineand cool word, had to look it up.

The word "rickshaw" originates from the Japanese word jinrikisha (人力車, 人 jin = human, 力 riki = power or force, 車 sha = vehicle), which literally means "human-powered vehicle".

love looking at these photos.

Widcat I was a little worried for you in photo 6. Those guys didn't look thrilled to be photographed! I'll have to show my brother-in-law #3. He's an electrical engineer and works for the electric company in our state! It'll make him cringe. Thanks for the glimpses into the street life of the city.

jet28 Thanks, I enjoyed the ride! Loved the colourful sights :-)

Mimis ah! widcat was right.
they did not look happy to be photographed!
sometimes, when i'm in mexico and want to capture the daily lives and whatnot,
i'm afraid that people do not want their pictures taken.
so often, i just don't take any pictures at all!
which is a pity.
their way of life is definitely something that deserves a photograph, even if it is just for me.
ohh i don't know, how are you so brave to take pictures like this anyway?
