This is Antigua Guatemala, an old colonial town about an hour from the capital of Guatemala.

I loved the old-world feel of the historic centre and the weird local merging of Mayan pagan ritual with Roman Catholicism... a very strange brew!

And all the other influences. I couldn't get the money together to do my Ph.D. fieldwork on syncretism in Latin America, so I spent three years in a library in Durham. This kind of post makes me slaver... revenant · 2011-02-01: 13:42
