The end-of-the-pier show...

The seaside pier is a somewhat bizarre phenomenon... I think the planning meeting must have gone something like:
We are going to construct a building that goes nowhere, has to be high enough to stand above the waves, will be very costly to maintain and all you can do is walk down to the end and then go back to where you started.....
Sounds great; I'll have one!

They had the same planning meeting for all the piers here in California and the first thing I always wonder when I find a new one is "what's out at the end?"
