Last night I ate fried bamboo caterpillars (yeah, the whole plate) garnished with some green onions and cilantro at
Sticky Rice in Chicago - Theresa and I went there for a belated birthday dinner after seeing the closing show of The Nutcracker downtown.
How did they taste? Not nearly as weird as you'd think, pretty light and a little chewy, like a very thin and pale-tasting piece of bacon, or a tiny french fry. Most were hollow and had no weight to them, and a lot of the taste came from the fryer oil. A great appetizer - mixing these into a bowl of rice would be even better.
