Turkey: Day 2

2009.06.22
hand knotted Turkish rugs.

I bought a Turkish rug and had it shipped here. Can't wait to get it!

the symbol on this column was a menorah with a cross coming out of the top. on the right side was an arm raised in victory and the left side of the menorah was a palm branch.

This was very important for my family because of our Jewish and Christian heritage.

Right to left: Me, cousin Katie, Nana, sister Danielle, cousin Kevin, sister Mandy

standing in the hot springs of Heirapolis.

you woulda thought we were in Alaska. It's not ice though, it's calcium from the hot springs.

Turkish Rug Shop: the owner of the shop brings in women from neighboring villages who have not gone to school, and teaches them to make these rugs, teaches them to read, write, handle business, etc. Then the women go back to their villages and when they make rugs, he buys them from the women and sells them. He's doing a great thing!

We also went to Colossae (not shown), Laodicea, and Heirapolis today.
