For your information:
Durian is called the “King of Fruits”, favored by almost everyone in South-East Asia. It has a very strong scent which can be smelled from far and the smell usually keeps the tourists from either America or the Europe away, because they don’t get use to the “stink” of it. However the flesh of the fruit is sweet, creamy and buttery like. Once the durian is ripen, it will fall all the way to the ground.
It’s approximately 5:50 am when I reached Wilson’s place, where we’ve planned to look for some durians for throughout the morning. At first we went to a durian hill named
SUA, about 3 minutes drive from his house. The land belongs to the
Bidayuh natives where only their own people can get in the forest to collect durians. For me I’m exceptional as I’m following Wilson.
Besides us there were the others looking for durians as well, but Wilson knew them as they’re from the same village. We also met a team of trio who has been here from 10pm last night; they have already collected almost 60 pieces of durian.
At the durian hill, if you heard a durian dropped on the ground, you have to yelled “Woo”, if nobody answers you back, the durian is yours. After 3 hours of searching we decided to go back, and we only got ourselves 9 pieces.
When we reached Wilson’s house, we took a rest and went to the durian hill at the back of his home, but we got ourselves nothing at all. Before I left, Wilson gave me all the 9 durians we found at
SUA, thanks to him!
In order to get yourself a durian, you got to have a pair of good eyes, a sensitive nose and some luck too!
And finally, say farewell to 2007 and
Happy New Year 2008 everyone!
