"The FAMILY TREE"

2010.12.04
pixel
Larry puts out tree up and on ornaments on the tree with great care and love
pixel
The oldest ornament, made for Amy's first Christmas when she was 2 months old
pixel
A family portrait ornament, 20 years after the first one
pixel
And now the grandchildren in Cozumel 2009, with their ornament from the Christmas we "gave" them the trip
pixel
Every year, the ornaments signified something special - like the year we gave John his first computer - now he's an tech man for Kellogg Company!
pixel
Two of many hand-made wooden ornaments that my brother John made for us over the years
pixel
The Christmas egg ornament from 1990 when Larry's parents celebrated their 50th anniversary!
pixel
Our newest ornament from Cozumel this year - we always write the place and date somewhere on the piece so we don't forget
pixel
An American flag heart from 2001, to signify the Sept 11 bombing in NYC
pixel
A pink "Mickey Ears" tiara and veil from this year when we took John, his wife Allison, and their two little princesses to DisneyWorld
pixel
The White House reminds us of the time we got to tour it and the Oval Office when Bill Clinton from Arkansas was the President of the US
pixel
We always buy an ornament from every trip we take, like this one from the US Virgin Islands
pixel
This beautiful Fontanini glass globe ornament was a gift from our best friends to symbolize the true meaning of the season - the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ
pixel
Our Christmas Tree is really our Family Tree, because it tells the entire story of us in ornaments! Every Christmas has new things to hang on the tree - travel, events, occasions, etc. When we look at it, it brings back so many wonderful memories of us, our children, and now our grandchildren.

I know this is a long post, but I wanted to document our family history through our Christmas tree!

juliearnold93 I always love a Christmas tree that tells a story and has the "sentimental" ornaments!
juliearnold93 · 2010-12-04: 08:40
ArtBee What a wonderful family tradition! I love decorations that have a story behind them. Your children and grandchildren must be excited when they see all those memories displayed on your Christmas tree! Do they continue this tradition with their own families?

jtnelso I always hated putting up Christmas ornaments because we had SOOOO many of them! Now, with my own family starting life memories, I cherish our history, and the new history we're making. Neat post, Mom.
