What a great post! Love the storyline! That solitary duck is looks so cool among all of the ripples! Your closing regarding the lake being frozen over and "none of them are here" is a bit of a sad closing!"

Beautiful pictures and entertaining story to go along with them! You had plenty of feathered friends visiting! Is this at Big Creek?

just the lonely little duck left, quite serene feeling!~ I've seen swans attack Canadian geese, maybe these geese heard of this also and are wise enough not to get close!~

I like the heron, some how it always feels like you are seeing a 'regal' bird don't you think? Swans of course are always beautiful, too bad they are so foul tempered!

Beautiful captures which all make for a wonderful post - I think the duck actully looks quite victorious but that maybe because your excellent narrative led me there

These shots may not be as close as mine, Brenda, but the colors are great. Almost appear more Autumn than winter. Beautiful set.

How entertaining in your own back yard! I know you always keep that camera handy..Great shots..Love to watch "happenings" of nature..I've thought before looking out the window to my back yard is like looking at a screen saver..this comes and goes..then another, then another :-)

Yep Heron's don't stick around much when people are around. They are flighty birds. I wish we had Swans they are so elegant! Great captures!

Oooooh.... I really enjoyed the story of what was going on right behind your house, Brenda! It is completely different from what I have by looking out of my apartment. Okay, well, I have got a lot of waterlilies to enjoy. Hahaha...
