JAMAICA WHEELCHAIRS - Day 2 Delivery

2011.04.30
pixel
Up, breakfast, and off again!
pixel
Our first stop was a private nursing home
pixel
The owner and her two beautiful daughters ran the home, which was so pretty and clean.
pixel
Our Mr. Morris met their Mr. Morris!
pixel
Besides wheelchairs, we took walkers and crutches, too. Chris Lewis captured everything on video for his website.
pixel
Then we went to the home of a great-grandmother, whose entire family was gathered for church dinner with her.
pixel
Because of her wheelchair, she was able to join the family on the porch for lunch.
pixel
At the end of this dirt road, we found Geraldine's small home.
pixel
Miss Geraldine was listening to Chris tell her about why we were there, then she began to "shout with joy"!
pixel
The group unloading at the next home - and spotting fresh bananas in the trees!
pixel
Miss Myra had a stroke 48 years ago and has walked to church every morning since then, until she couldn't get there by herself. The new chair will enable her to be the first one to arrive at the church again!
pixel
Gracie was in her element at an orphanage for physically and emotionally disabled children. She took off her bracelets and gave them to these girls.
pixel
This was certainly the most difficult of all the places we saw. These children had been abandoned because of their defects - families couldn't care for them, but this home did!
pixel
Back to the hotel to clean up for dinner - this delivery day was only 9 hours long!
pixel
(Because we've travelling again, I'm posting all of my Jamaica shots ahead of time.)

On day 2, we made wheelchair deliveries to individual homes, many VERY far into the country on one-lane dirt roads. The people were so poor, but seemed so happy - and they were so thankful for their new chairs.
