Today was a memorial day: the anniversary of the 1956 execution of Hungary's Prime Minister Nagy Imre and other 227 martyrs of the Revolution of 1956.

Kossuth tér -
I wanted to light another candle at the monument at theother side of the park but I couldn't - all the square was closed with cordons |
all the square is closed - nonetheless it was promised that anybody can light candles all the day at the main 1956 monument
|
no way even to the memorial wall of the fusillade in front of the Parliament
(if you enlarge you can see the monument that consists of metal balls representating bullets lodged into the wall) |
it's almost 6pm but nobody can go in... if you want to cross the square you have to enter through these metal detector doors
|
I couldn't go in to light my candle because I carried picture frames under my arms that was called 'dangerous' by the guards
