The "Rocket Garden" ... and I thought they built these things!!! Wow, I wonder how much "Miracle Grow" they have to use to get a 100+ foot rocket???

This is a water fountain at the Rocket Garden. It was syncronized to the music that was playing and had a sign noting that the water was "filtered to levels that exceed local drinking standards. Please do not let young children wearing diapers play in the water."
HMmmm...it made me wonder where else the water is being used. ;-)

If you have never seen anything like this in person, it is hard to describe just how big this stuff is. If I remember correctly, this is one of the engines from the "Saturn V" Rockets. The person on the left side of the picture is my wife...who stands about 5'8" tall...that should make the engine about 15 feet tall.

This was at a display mock-up of the shuttle "Explorer". However, the tires were actual tires that were used on a shuttle mission! How cool is it to get to touch something that went into space and came back!

It's nice having other camera savvy people in the family! It means we don't have to ask strangers to "take my picture" :-D
Here is that scale issue again - to get far enough away to have most of the "shuttle" in the picture - we look like Lilliputians.

This is one of my favorite pictures from the whole day. It was taken from the observation tower for the shuttle launch pads. This isn't a "special effect". I really did hold the camera to the eyepiece of one of the telescopes and took the picture. This is the unedited version...it pulled off center slightly when I pressed the button to take the picture, but I'm still happy with the results.

Lack of perspective and scale again...I was standing at least 30 feet away from this display (Saturn V rocket). It was on a stand that was at least 20 feet off the floor. There just isn't anything close enough to give any sense of size.

An attempt at adding something to the picture to provide perspective. Here I laid on the floor under the rocket display, looking up past my daughter to the engines. While it made a somewhat interesting picture, it still doesn't have the scale or dof I was trying to get. :-(
BTW - this girl loves taking pictures...she's a natural born photographer. :-)

I'm not sure what I was trying to take a picture of here...but I seem to have gotten a picture of my oldest daughter (also a camera person) and the corner of my son...can't remember for the life of me what was outside the window.

Playing in the fountain at the Rocket Garden - a great way to cool off at the end of a hot day!

Day 2 of our vacation! All day at Kennedy Space Center! What a blast! (pun intended) The size and scale of this stuff was just amazing. Trying to take pictures that have any sense of perspective was almost impossible, but I tried. ;-)
One funny thing - as we listened to one of the "tour guides" talk about KSC (Kennedy Space Center) this and KSC that and KSC the other thing, I noticed the microphone was not the greatest -- or perhaps the guides enunciation wasn't all that good. Either way, I thought she was saying KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken). The first time it really didn't make sense, after I figured out what was happening...it just made me hungry!!
