Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail III

2008.01.23
A full view of the Mill Creek Aqueduct allowing the Ohio & Erie Canal to cross over Mill Creek. (sepia)

A support holding up the towpath as it goes over the aqueduct. (sepia)

These wooden gates keep the canal from overflowing by allowing excess water to spill down into Mill Creek. (sepia)

Some barbed wire keeping folks from wandering onto an i-beam alongside the aqueduct. (sepia, macro)

A bridge over the canal adjacent to the aqueduct. (sepia)

Today I stumbled upon the Mill Creek Aqueduct, one of two working viaducts remaining on the Ohio & Erie Canal. The aqueduct (the original was wood) allows the Canal to continue uninterrupted despite crossing natural waterways.
