Squares: Steel and Light
2007.11.02
Most of the shots on my blog lately have been scenery and details taken around Zagreb to give family and friends an idea of what it's like here. But one thing I truly enjoy capturing is simple but abstract looking images. This is just the sort of image I might use as a starting point for a painting some day. Images that make you stop and say, what is that? I was in just the right place at just the right time to get this one. Sometimes it pays to snoop down little side streets that don't look like they go anywhere.

This photo is just to show what the thing in the top image actually is. It's just a sign outside a building displaying the logos of the four businesses inside. The shiny steel frames are reflecting the low angle sunlight onto the building. The shadow in the top left corner is being cast by a flag, also mounted on the wall. I had to wait for the slight breeze to move the flag and it's shadow out of the shot. I just moved to the right until I was looking at the sign edge-on.
