These photos were taken in Vietri sur Mare on the Amalfi Coast region of Italy.
The first photo was a very dark image and no amount of subtle adjustments were going to correct. So just for fun I started making some extreme colour and contrast alterations using layers and channels. Eventually I end up with an image that reminded me of old hand-tinted post cards. That's the image I've posted here. The last image is a total fake -- I combined five different photos and made extreme adjustments similar to the ones I used on the first image. I'm not exactly sure how I made the first one. I guess I should have made notes.
