Day 22: Congrats Junior Ranger!

2008.07.16
We totally enjoyed our rest day today. It was "KOA Day" as the kids claimed, since they enjoyed the KOA facilities so much while I was busy sifting through the pictures and trying hard to ensure this photoblog was as up-to-date as possible. In the afternoon, we had one more thing left to do in Yellowstone National Park, which led us to this Ranger Station at Madison.

Farhan had finished all the required answer sheets in his Junior Ranger booklet, the only thing left was to attend one of the Ranger led programs. So, we chose this particular one about animals of Yellowstone.

The scenery from the Ranger Station.

It was an interesting interactive session about the habitats of animals in Yellowstone. For instance, bisons can be found in the wide valley area or meadows; and bighorn sheep is somewhere up in the mountains at Eagle Peak. This was where we learned that bisons are migrating to the east to create new families. No wonder we saw lots of them on our way from Canyon to the Lake.

Farhan was still frustrated that he did not spot any big horn sheep at all national parks he visited so he made 'big horn sheep' as his 'guess the animal" game during this program.

During the program, these two ravens were busy looking for food at the picnic table nearby.

The founder of the national park, Stephen Mather.

This belongs to elk.

This Junior Ranger program was much better than other national parks that Farhan participated. The ranger really went through each answer and provided more information and even probed Farhan with more questions. Sarah was envious of Farhan as she's over-age to participate.

Farhan was flattered when the Ranger kept on praising him being able to answer hard questions which most kids got them wrong.

Yeay, congrats our Junior Ranger!

He was so pleased with this program.

We spotted ground squirrel when we walked back to the car. With that, we bid adieu to the national park that we love so much. Goodbye Yellowstone! Tomorrow, we shall continue our journey to our next destination.
