The Great Lakes (3) - Lake Michigan
2007.11.27
[Travelling date: Nov 25, 2007] On our way back, since it was still early and there was a break in the winter weather (it was sunny but windy), we made a detour to Sleeping Bear Dunes, another place that Farhan really wanted to visit. Though it was a long drive on a shared road US-31, we enjoyed the scenic drive of Lake Michigan. We could have taken lots more beautiful pictures but our camera was low on battery – quite frustrating! We passed by few lakes and one of them was beautiful Torch Lake which I could only capture in my memory. D wanted to save the battery for picture taking at Sleeping Bear Dunes. Earlier on, D succumbed to spare few precious shots of this frozen lake near Point Iroquois, Upper Peninsula.

Hey we paused at the 45th parallel marker on southbound US-31. We missed to take picture of a similar marker on our way up at Grayling on I-75.

At last after a long drive, we reached Sleeping Bear Dunes at 4.30pm. We just missed the visitor center that was closed at 4pm.

Too windy for them and they stopped as it was getting dark and they had no clue how long more was the climb to the top.

We traveled about 900 miles around Michigan (that is like traveling around the whole coast of Peninsular Malaysia from KB–JB–Perlis) in two days. We have covered most parts of the mitten-shaped Michigan’s Lower Peninsula and a bit of Upper Peninsula and more importantly it was quite an accomplishment to touch the 3 Lakes out of 5 Great Lakes. Hmm… when are we going to Niagara Falls so that along the way we can touch Lake Erie & Lake Ontario?
