Boating at Gallup Park

2008.05.24
Since we did not go traveling on the Memorial Day weekend, we went to Gallup Park on this hot sunny Saturday.

D enquired and found out that the Gallup Park Canoe Livery features canoe, kayak, pedal boat, and rowboat rentals.

We decided to take the rowboat as it can accommodate the four of us. D paid for 2 hours of rowing along the Huron River.

We were heading towards the Huron Parkway Bridge behind Farhan. He was trying hard to learn how to row…

… while D was rowing on the other side. Now going under the bridge…

Sarah was patiently waiting for her turn to row.

Hey, I thought it was easy to synchronize… our boat was going in circles! Hahah!

You can tell from the corner of Sarah’s eye; she was trying to time her pace with her brother.

Now… we got the hang of it. Can you see a lovely swan was circling the little island?

The parents’ turn! We had all the pairing configurations among the four of us.

Yo Captain!

The boat was moving faster when D was rowing alone. Heh!

The captain wanted to go under that small bridge.

Going under the small bridge.

A lot of people were bbq-ing at the park.

They row like a pro now! ;-)

Mom and Dad were enjoying the ride…

… while kids were busy synchronizing their paddles.

At one part of the Huron River, we saw lots of lily pads.

“D, why don’t we go under that tiny bridge?!”

“Hey, I can touch this bridge!”

Rowing through the lily pads.

Farhan wanted to try rowing alone.

Not bad, bro! Now, it was Sarah’s turn to be the captain.

D took a break while kids were rowing back to the pier.

We met lots of geese too.

A lily pad for souvenir, anyone?

D was maneuvering the boat to the pier.

That was fun and quite an experience too!. Next time, we can try kayak or canoe. Hmm… lemme gather some guts to canoe with one of the kids as one canoe can’t accommodate all of us.
