Sarah's graduation

2009.06.05
Sarah was getting ready in the morning with her lovely dress for the graduation ceremony. She took her bus as usual to school in the morning. The kids were then transported by bus from Tappan to Pioneer High School, where the ceremony was held.

We went to the auditorium rather early to make sure we got a good parking and seating spot. We brought along Sawadee's mom and brother.

The event started at 10am when principal Mr Gary Court welcomed all of us and informed us this batch was the best ever since 13 years ago. He mentioned some statistics to convince us this wasn't just air.

Past students were invited to give short motivational speeches. This guy shared his experience and gave advice on how he coped with the work load in high school. He channeled his stress by dancing and singing! Ohh... he did an awesome performance too.

The school choir performed at the beginning and at the end of the ceremony.

You would never see any principal doing this sort of things in Malaysia during any ceremony. Heheh.

Each advisor gave away certificates to their advisee. So for Sarah, it was Mr Thobe :)

They were all very excited.

Sarah was waiting for her name to be called. By the way, I was so proud to see her wearing that 'All A' medal with blue and white ribbon. Those who got 'All A and B' get just a blue ribbon medal.

While we did get the front-most row seat, the better-angled seats were reserved for the kids--hence this awkward-angled photo of Sarah receiving her cert.

The Guest of Honor was the school coach who just retired.

Being congratulated by Principal Court.

At the end of the ceremony, Mr Court's daughter, who also graduated from Tappan, read a special dedication from the 8th graders to their beloved principal who will move to Angell next year.

The part when she announced that a flag will be flown atop the U.S. Capitol in Washington DC (wow!) during their school trip the following week to honor his 30 years of service was really moving.

Proud parents.

Ain't she tall, slim, beautiful and smart?

One of her best friends, KZ.

The kids dressed their best that day, simply said.

with Mr. Kunz.

with Bhim and Manji and Adhikari Jr.. They will be moving to Hamilton, Canada soon.

Both families are moving out of Ann Arbor.

Yup, it's All As for Sarah in all quarters while she was at Tappan since 2007! Congrats!

Life will be more challenging as we grow older, but if you keep up the good work and focus on your goals, you will be successful, Sarah.

Nice! But D commented that Tappan could have put their school logo instead.
