Day 5: Entering Yellowstone via north entrance

2009.07.04
In our opinion, Billings KOA is the best among those which we have been to. We were lucky this time to get a tent site which was so near to the bathroom.

Good morning... hee! Last night at 10.30pm, we went to pick up Kandak at Billings Airport which is less than 10 minute drive from the campsite. Farhan was so eager to setup his 'lil tent prior to his arrival.

After having our usual continental breakfast, we left for Yellowstone National Park. We enjoyed the scenic drive with beautiful mountain range and lots of cattles gazing the grass. Btw, that's Yellowstone river. We took lots of pictures throughout our journey but due to 30 pictures per entry limit for this photoblog, I could only share this picture. Heh!

Even though this was our second time here with the kids, we haven't seen this gateway because this time we came from the North entrance.

For the family album, thanks Kandak!

Err.. I don't think Sarah is that tall?!

We stopped by at Mammoth Hot Springs. Kids recalled we saw lots of deers here as well during our visit last summer.

A small creek from the terraces.

The boys went to check out the limestone.

A 2000 year old dormant hot spring.

Just to avoid repetition, please visit my last year's entry to learn more about hot springs...

... living microorganisms and the beautiful terraces. Hah!

Sarah started to feel uncomfortable about exposing herself to the hot summer sun. She was so worried about getting tanned.

Farhan followed Kandak to hike along the trail ...

...while we cheated by driving up to the top of the terraces.

We just walked down a bit...

... to meet the two boys here. Kandak said he would need a lot of pain killers. Hmm...

A lot of beautiful terraces formation around this hot spring area.

:)

Farhan seemed to enjoy hiking with Abg Kandak :P

If we studied geology, we would appreciate this place better.

It was just amazing to see the colors generated by the living microorganisms.

Kandak spotted this dead lizard.

Beautiful.

The buried trees created...

... a spectacular view of these terraces.

A breathtaking scenery of the hotspring and mountain in the background.

The first bison which we spotted for this trip on our way to exit Yellowstone park via the west exit.

We arrived at West Yellowstone KOA around 4pm. Hey, we set up our gazebo for the first time over the picnic table. Since we would be staying here for three nights, it would be convenient to have this setup for us to conveniently enjoy our meal.

Farhan did not want to miss grilling marshmallows to make s'mores. Ohh... how we appreciated the fire as the temperatures reduced drastically to the 40s at night. We would need to be wrapped properly in order to sleep well. Wish us luck!

Happy birthday Kak Da, and a Happy Fourth of July!
