Day 11: Downtown Seattle

2009.07.10
We decided to spend the whole day in Seattle today and started our day by having breakfast at La Panier, ...

... a French-style bakery in Seattle. Ohh.. the almond croissant was really yum! The coffee was very good too ;)

We then walked towards Pike Place Market and took picture with this first Starbucks located at 1912 Pike Place! Yeah, Starbucks was founded here in Seattle in the year 1971. Hey, that was the year we were born!

So, this is the famous Pike Place Market!

Lots of expensive art and crafts...

... but very cheap fresh flowers.

We noticed lots of fresh and gigantic seafood sold here!

The famous Pike Place Farmers Market.

We continued walking about one mile to go up to this significant landmark of the Pacific Northwest of the US.

Riding the elevator up to the Space Needle observation deck for this view. Hey, that was the top of Mt Rainier among the clouds! Amazing! Please look carefully...

Downtown Seattle.

So kids, since you have been to many cities and observation decks...

... what do you think of Seattle?

My favorite city is still Chicago :) ... a very well structured city!

Kids were playing with live camera view of Mt Rainier.

In front of the Space Needle.

Yay, been there done that!

We were extremely hungry by then and walked back towards Pike Market. It was a difficult walk due to empty tummy. Hah! Farah, who have been staying in Seatte for two years recommended this restaurant.

The food was good!

... but this fine dining portion did not satisfy our craving for fresh seafood which was...

...the main reason we came here! Heh!

We made our way to Pike market again to buy fresh seafood. This fish market was known for yelling orders and artfully tossing fish from one another. I recalled watching the video about their success as a result of good teamwork and happy workplace in one of the Petronas workshop series.

We bought fresh crabs and prawns for $75 and Kandak bought salmon for $40. Pretty expensive huh? ... is it due to wild catch and the freshness?! or tourist trap?

Before heading back to our campsite, we toured Aiki Beach, which is located at the west of Seattle.

From here, we could take picture of beautiful Seattle skyline.

Group photo, everyone!

D immediately setup his grill the moment we reached our tent. Hah!

We totally enjoyed our expensive seafood dinner. It was worth it!! ... very delicious and satisfying indeed! ... or trying to justify the value for the amount we spent eh? :P

Ohh... I also bought fresh asparagus from the Pike market. I had not been eating that much for quite some time till I could not sleep well that night.. hahah!
