Day 12: Boeing factory and airplanes

2009.07.11
This was another reason why D wanted to visit Washington state...

... to visit Boeing at Everett.

Based on its website, we could not bring any belongings, camera, phone or purse to the Boeing factory tour. So, we snapped a few pictures outside the building.

Ohh... later on we were told we could not take pictures only during the tour. Family photo before we kept all our belongings in the locker.

We met this Malaysian guy Mustafa who works with Petronas Research and is attached to one company in Seattle for 6 months.

D seemed to enjoy the tour of the largest building by volume in the world (not this one above, but the airplane factory), which is as large as 911 basketball courts.

I wish we could take pictures of the informative factory tour! Sorry! I can only share some pictures which we took at the exhibit.

Inside an aircraft engine. The Trent engine for the 777 is much bigger.

Check out the landing gear!

Farhan was the pilot for that day...

... for the only passenger. Hah!

I hope D was satisfied with the tour. We managed to see 777, 787 and 747 being assembled. Ohh... we also saw the first 787 painted in All Nippon Airways colors as the launch customer.

It was time to go in order to send Kandak on time at Sea Tac airport. Yup, his vacation was over, it was time for him to get back to work.

But before sending him off, we made a slight detour to Aiki Beach again but this time was to enjoy fish

Seafood again today :)

While waiting for our order, Sarah went out to enjoy her photography :P

Good job, Sarah!

Simple seafood lunch yet yummy!

We brought back calamari rings platter...

... as we had to rush to airport.

Bye Kandak! We hope you enjoyed the camping trip as much as we did :). Have a safe trip to Michigan!

On the way to the airport, D saw a large number of airplanes, so he decided to make a slight detour to find out where they are.

It's the Museum of Flight!

It's located at Boeing Field. From the look of it, either the old Seattle airport was here, or the old Boeing factory was here.

We arrived at 5pm, just as the museum was closing..

So we took a drive around the parking lots that afforded great views of the planes--without the hassle of traffic jams!

That's the old Air Force One before it being upgraded to a 747.

The first 747 to fly.

That's it for the visit to Seattle. On the way back, we could not miss seeing this fully snowcapped mountain called Mt. Baker near the Canadian border in the North Cascades National Park.
