Day 13: Driving up north

2009.07.12
Our plan to go on ferry ride from Anacortes to watch orcas had to be cancelled due to raining all day long :(. Nevertheless, we still proceeded to drive around Fidalgo Island, one of the 172 San Juan islands.

At the ferry terminal.

San Juan islands are part of Washington state while their neighboring islands, the Gulf Islands are part of the Canadian province of British Columbia.

We also went ahead to drive along another island which can be reached by car, Whidbey Island. That's Deception Pass in the background.

The pictures at the island did not turn out well due to bad weather.

This boy was a bit frustrated for not being able to enjoy the beach, while watching orcas?! Hah!

Well, if and only if the weather was on our side, we would have enjoyed our ferry ride to another island which we might be able to see orcas.

Hopefully we will be able to go for whale watching somewhere at the Atlantic Ocean, near our future home in NJ.

Farhan found dead crabby and got excited a bit.

Oak Harbor, Whidbey Island

We did not waste time at the island, but instead drove up north to the border and guess what...

... the weather was nice .

We had our lunch there, the lunch which I prepared to be enjoyed by the beach while watching orcas. Hahah!

This park is located at the border in a town called Blaine, Washington and Douglas, British Columbia.

At the US side of the park.

That Peace Arch monument was built exactly on the US - Canada border.

The arch was built to commemorate 100 years of undefended border between US and Canada.. thus the "Peace" arch.

I stepped on Canada while D was still in the US. Heh!

Yay, we went to Canada without visa :P

The flower bed of Canada flag is so pretty!

Sarah who loves to jump when taking photos.

A lot of cars there waiting for immigration checkpoint, if you look closely behind me.

Hey, welcome to the US of A! Kids felt so lucky that they have been to all those places on the welcome sign - Statue of Liberty, State Capitol, Gateway Arch, Mt Rushmore, Golden Gate Bridge, and... Space Needle!

They are indeed lucky!

Heading to the flower bed of US flag.

Farhan just could not wait to be taller than his Daddy.

A lots of sculptures were placed around the park.

US immigration in the background.

Farhan was hugging the giant sequoia tree.

It was indeed an interesting day despite not being able to watch whales.
