Day 17: Alsea Bay & Oregon Coast Aquarium

2009.07.16
Upon checking out from the hotel, everyone agreed to have lunch at Meeka restaurant again before we left Portland. Heh!

Some groceries shopping had to be done since we were going back to camping!

Hey, I managed to snap Portland skyline from the bridge as we headed further west to the coast.

Crossing the mountain range and thick forest...

... till we reached our destination, Alsea Bay, Oregon Coast. We were shocked to feel the sudden drop of temperature from 90s to 60s! Check out the fog, wow! That was our campsite by the Alsea Bay.

Crossing the Alsea Bay bridge

We were all somehow excited to be back in a tent. Hah!

I believe the excitement must be due to its scenic location :)

We were told by the KOA staff there will be lots of seals on the sand bar when it's exposed at low tide.

We walked to the beach to check out this beautiful place.

This boy was especially excited...

... and kept on running along the beach.

The next morning we went a bit north of Alsea Bay, to Newport where the Oregon Coast Aquarium is located.

The aquarium is also known as Oddwater since they have one area covering all the odd sea species. We would not have gone to this aquarium if Farhan was not persistently insist to visit it. We tried to convince him that this was nothing compared to Sydney aquarium. Heh!

Touch and feel the skin.

Sea otter in the background.

Owh... so smart this seal! It just knew when to pose with the kids. Heheh.

Hi, where are you guys from?

We could not help but kept on comparing this aquarium with Sydney and Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. Sorry Farhan! He seemed to enjoy irregardless..

Walk thru passages of the deep.

This aquarium has lots of halibuts though.

We kept on recalling tons of sharks at the Sydney Aquarium. D was puzzled how this was ranked as Top 10 aquarium in the US.

Well, as long as this boy enjoyed his visit.

Not much to cover, eh?

Kids enjoyed touching these...

... anemone! Eeww... so slimey and it sucked your fingers. Farhan forced me to touch it!

Sarah thought she was still a small girt and hit the glass. Ouch!

Tiny bell jellyfish! Simply beautiful, I never got tired of watching them.

Bioluminescent fish, D snapped quite a lot of their odd sea species collection but I cud not display them all here.

Kids were busy measuring their wingspan :P. We managed to cover the aquarium by lunch time.
