Day 20: Crossing Oregon rugged country

2009.07.19
Since it would be a long journey, we left Cascade Locks kabin early in the morning, at 7.30am.

Now that we were on our return leg of our trip to the east, we would lose another hour today, from Pacific time to Mountain time when we reached our destination, Mountain Home in Idaho.

We passed by quite an interesting landscape along the way.

We made a brief stop here to snap this picture behind us as to bid goodbye to Mount Hood. Heh! ... cud only see part of the mountain though.

Our entire journey today would be crossing Oregon on Interstate 84 and the initial part of the journey was along the Columbia River, bordering Oregon and Washington.

Check out the rock formation! Well, I'm not geologist to comment. Heh!

We could feet the car swayed whenever we passed by strong wind area especially we had an extra cargo up there!

When we passed by this Hermiston McNary Dam, we were also moving away from the Columbia River, towards southeast.

The landscape then changed and we spotted few dirt devils.

Lots of wheat fields in this part of Oregon and they...

... created picturesque view from far.

We even stopped at this Oregon Scenic Highways lookout point.

D wanted to take a break from driving...

... and I took over NIKAI :)

As we drove further to southeast, the scenery changed to mountain range, spots of ice have not melted.

I lost count already how many times we have crossed the 45th parallel, but this was the first time for this roadtrip.

It was soothing to see the spots of this green fields when we drove in this hot weather.

Pit stop was required to fill up our tummy at...

... Baker Valley rest area.

It was really hot summer weather...

.. but windy!

It was challenging to drive in this weather which made us sleepy and we we kept on taking turn to drive.

Yup, we were still on I-84 West!

Finally, we reached the east end of Oregon!

Say hello again to Idaho!

NIKAI claimed it was 100 degree Fahrenheit

We planned to overnight somewhere before Twin Falls,...

... in a small town called Mountain Home.

We will camp here for two nights in this deluxe tent site that was well shaded :)

This campsite also offers camping in a teepee as well :P.
