Day 23: From Salt Lake City Across Wyoming

2009.07.22
[Continuation from previous entry

The driver told us about the rare tornado that ripped through the park in 1999. The big tree in the far background is the oldest surviving cottonwood in the park.

The houses around this part of town is really old. People settled here first, I guess.

State Capitol behind the kids, too tiny eh? We definitely had to go there for a better picture.

Approaching the Eagle Gate that signifies the entrance to Brigham Young's property in the old days.

Eagle Gate is located at South and East Temple.

We all totally enjoyed the ride and it was a wise decision to do the tour in the evening. Thank you, Ace, for the job well done :). Btw, Ace is 17 years old!

This museum of Church History was already closed on our way to where we parked our car.

We also missed to tour the Convention Center that had a garden on the rooftop containing all the trees in Utah.

We just took pictures instead.

We did not want to miss the State Capitol for the family album.

Sarah spent few more minutes there to demonstrate her photography skill before we headed back to the hotel.

We just spent a night here in SLC.

After having our breakfast, Farhan took a dip into the pool which was a must at every stop. Hmm...

He only managed to swim for a short while as we had to check out for our long journey ahead.

He was uber excited when I offered him to be the co-pilot for the day.

Goodbye SLC! Btw, we noticed lots of houses in Salt Lake are on the hillside.

One last attempt to snap SLC skyline from the car. Not bad eh?

Being the co-pilot, Farhan underwent some basic photography training to snap pictures of our journey.

We told him if he missed the welcome sign he can never be the co-pilot for the next day. Heh! Luckily he got this one!

For some reason, D was not sleepy at all when Farhan sat in front beside him. It must be due to lots of arguments he had with Farhan from how to pronounce certain words to things written on billboards and what they spotted on the road. I was happily choosing pictures for my photoblog in the back seat.

Wow... sea of wind turbines.

Another interesting rock formation which Farhan managed to capture...

... on this I-80 crossing Wyoming.

Since we haven't had pizza for quite some time, the boys craved for Pizza Hut.

Well, these were the only toppings we normally ordered, mushroom, pineapple and jalapeno.

Farhan noticed this train engine running alone at 70 mph trailing behind us.

D took picture of this nice rainbow with a row of wind turbines underneath it. Ohh... I was driving by this time.

Somewhere after we passed by Laramie, we saw this Lincoln Monument at the rest area by I-80. This monument signifies part of I-80 that is Lincoln Highway.

That's too nice for a farm house but a farm house nonetheless!

Entering Nebraska for the first time for the kids and NIKAI.

I had to stop the car since it was already dark to take picture of this welcome sign.

We broke our journey about 20 miles after that welcome sign and overnight in a motel at a small town called Kimball.
