Still celebrating Eid...

2009.10.25
... even though the month of Syawal just left us a few days ago. We just could not find the right weekend before for our open house because we were busy celebrating Eid at other places :). Alhamdulillah, today we managed to invite Malaysian community around here for a small do at our place.

Our menu today was nasi minyak,..

ayam masak merah and..

..acar timun with carrot.

Abe, D's cousin from Connecticut, specially requested for roti jala to be in the menu. D spent his morning netting this to be eaten with...

... the beef curry.

After preparing the main dish, it was time to think about the dessert. I tried this recipe for the first time last night, cream cheese brownies which was refrigerated overnight. I must repeat this recipe as it was super yummy! I also made pink coco de nata jello last night.

At 11am, I thought I got a couple of hours to try the carrot cake cupcakes recipe for the first time as well!! Crazy huh? ... and I invited my guests to come at 2pm! Thank God the carrot cupcakes experiment with that limited time turned out to be a success. I guess I worked best under pressure. Hah!

I iced them with cream cheese frosting. Yum!

Our first guest arrived slightly after 2pm, Khor and family, who lives in the same neighborhood. He brought along some fresh persimmons and the best french truffles ever! Thank you very much.

Yeah.. we managed to pose with the first guests ;)

Farhan was busy entertaining their daughter.

Those persimmons were very fresh and crunchy. I must find out from Khor where they bought those.

Then Wan and family arrived with their cousins who came from Malaysia for a brief visit. They seemed to enjoy the food since they have been missing Malaysian food for a week already. Hahah! A week???

Babysitting Maira for a while.

Smile please..

Mukhris in action!!

Wan and family had to rush to airport to send off her cousins.

Malaysian students at Rutgers are not that many, I think they are less than twenty.

I'm glad that most of them could make it to our open house.

Then En Arham, Kak Teh and their daughters arrived. I'm so sorry that our li'l apartment was a bit crowded.

Hey Abe finally arrived after quite a bad traffic jam all the way from West Haven.

D had to make another batch of roti jala. It was a hit! Hamidah was so eager to learn and help out. This girl was very rajin at any gathering :)

Sorry guys, some had to stand and...

.. at one point, our sofa had to be pushed aside..

.. to cater for more space to sit.

Abe came with his friend, Paul. They really loved D's roti jala! We hope the food was worth their driving all the way from West Haven. They left our place around 6pm and had to go thru another bad traffic jam again, for their journey home.

Sarah with Kak Teh's lovely daughters.

Our upstairs neighbor came in at night :). They are from India and the husband is working at an IT company nearby.

Many thanks for coming, everyone! Thanks to Atilia for the cake and Kwang for the grapes :).

Datinnikzaharah you have made a new circle of friends already. Abe is able to make it to your open house. good for you and for him. AA has it own plus point but NJ too has its own merits.
