I keep forgetting to take pictures

2007.10.16
I went to Debaser, a Swedish club/concert venue, to see Animal Collective, this band. I didn't take any pictures, which is why this picture is here. Anyway, they were really incredible.

This is our kitchen. I felt bad that you haven't seen my apartment yet, so there are a couple apt pics.

Living Room. Kitchen is to the right, and there's a porch through that door on the wall you're facing. The couch/coffee table plus kitchen table is Emma's domain, and the desk chair/desk is my domain. I'm sitting in that little chair right now.

Our bedroom. My bed is the white-covered. They gave us all the same sheets and duvet covers, which are reversible. So I used the white side because I hate match-y things. An interesting thing we quickly learned here--Swedes don't use fitted sheets. We were given a duvet cover, pillowcase, and 2 flat sheets. You just use 1 flat sheet for the mattress. At our hostel, we didn't even get an extra flat sheet, we just used the duvet as our top sheet. I actually really like this practice and may bring the ideas back with me to Grinnell. But that requires buying new bedding, so I probably won't.

The entire apartment, although small, is wall-papered! This is a shame, because I loooove hanging lots of pictures everywhere! So I use my closet door and the frame around it (which you can't see) to hang pictures so I can look at my friends back home! I miss you guys.

This is an incredible postcard I found in Helsinki that's now on my closet frame. I don't know why I like it so much, but I'm very drawn to it.

In case you were wondering, my hair's still short, although longer than you may have last seen it. This is what I have spent literally all day doing besides cleaning--staring at the computer screen.

Today we didn't have class, which usually means that exploring is involved, or at least getting out of the apartment. But we were scheduled to have a guy come and inspect our apartment this afternoon. The Swedish Program hires this guy every semester to make sure that the students are keeping their apartments clean. After my friend Jen didn't pass her inspection because she was unaware hers was on Monday morning, Emma and I were really concerned and cleaned a ridiculous amount. Anyway, we passed.

Animal Collective was amazing and so trippy! I hadn't enjoyed a show for a band I didn't really know in a year or so, when Mucca Pazza came to Grinnell. I was upset with myself for forgetting my camera, though, so there are no pictures from the concert.
