20080303 - Hawaii Day Four

Mauna Loa

Driving Saddle Road

Mauna Kea is off to the right, it was cloudy. Our little yellow jeep is down there.

Today was another travel day. We took off from the Kona side and drove saddle road between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa ending up in Hilo. Its a pretty rough road on the Kona side, but an interesting trip and worth it. We stopped in between the two mountains and took a little hike and took a few photos. It was surprising how gentle a slope Mauna Loa has. It is a really long flat mountain, making its height deceiving.

DancingDolphin I didn't see the lava fields when I was in Hawaii (well, I was on Kauai) but they seem like they would be very interesting! Another great set! So glad we all get to go along for the ride!
