Fifteen Minutes?

2008.02.12
You know you've hit the big time when you make front page of the Whittlesea Leader!

While 4 year old kindergarten is government funded, 3 year old kinder is not and is in extremely high demand. Particularly in my kindergarten's municipality.

Enlarge to read my amazing words of wisdom..*groan*

Last week I had a call from Brad Ryan from a local paper near my kindergarten. He wanted to know if I had a spare 5 minutes to chat to him about about an article he was writing in regards to 3 Year Old Kindergarten. I said "sure" and proceeded to answer a number of his questions without really thinking about what I was saying....(surprise surprise....Andrea not thinking) I was multi tasking at the time you see and it wasn't until he ended our conversation with "Do you mind If I quote you on a few of those comments" that I realized I should have been paying more attention!

Fast forward to a week later and the paper was released. Seems as though my "quotes" made front cover. Thankfully I didn't say anything too stupid. But I don't sound like Einstein either. Looks as though I'll have to live with the fact that "Just unbelievable" will be my literary legacy.

The mother's were all very excited about the fact that their children's teacher had been quoted and hence I heard the words "this is your fifteen minutes of fame" more times than i care to remember!

angeldevil1980 wow your claim to fame - well done LOL - You have your say girl!! I personal;ly too think it is disgraceful 3 year old is not funded especially with our current situation with interest rate rises and women having to go back to work!!

KerBear Yay, front page ;) hahaha I think your quote sounds just fine... just be glad it was a phone interview and there isn't some horrendous awkward looking photo on the front page!! I don't know about there, but here our local paper always seems to have a picture of a kid doing something.... no matter what the cover story is (though I guess it would be quite fitting in the case of that story haha)

When i lived in Melbourne I certainly never read the Whitlesea anything! Here i am reading the 'Whittlesea leader, 32 years later and 11, 000 miles away, in Hackney. Thank G-d I never take these things for granted. The fabulous weirdness of it all is what makes life so worthwhile! ?:o)

joycephotography So how many copies did you buy? C'mon I know you have more than one!! Good post and congrats as well. What was that funny commercial I used to see when I lived there. Oh yah, A guy going out to get the paper in his under wear and gets locked out. " One day, your gonna get caught with your pants down,' Instead of foot in your mouth that came to mind.
joycephotography · 2008-02-12: 09:41

MHJphotos Nice job bud! You claim to have been 'multitasking' during the interview ... you weren't blogging at the time, were you?! =)

I liked what photopoet said "Congrats on ANOTHER front page!"

BreezyOnTheEyes i read the little bit that wasn't blurry in this article and actually found myself wanting more lol. it's ridiculous how smart kids are by the age of 4 or 5 compared to my generation. i think that it's completely deserved for there to be a publically funded 3 y/o kindergarten if there is a demand. there is no harm in more education and chance to grow both socially and mentally if there are younger kids out there that are ready for it.

in related events, i'm sorry that i didn't show up for class, i fear i've let The Seal Group down. i realize now what an opportunity it would've been to be under the tutalage of THE Andrea S. ~_^ i swear i will make it up to them.

furthmore, congratualtions on front page hehe and lastly, i love how it's called 'kinder' there...i'd never heard it referred to in the abreiviated form until i met you.

ambersunsets · 2008-02-12: 18:17
SheriJ Ha ha ha I like Mat's question? So were you blogging at the time? WOW someone famous on the ole photoblog how kool!!
SheriJ · 2008-02-12: 21:53
TamaraHarden Here, our kindergarten starts at 5, and everything before that is preschool. My granddaughter goes to a private preschool, and the tuition is steep. You pretty much have to have a couple years of preschool, just to keep up with the rest of the kindergarteners. In our day, we all started in kindergarten, and that is where we started to learn the basics. Nowadays, kids are learning at very early ages, and it would be great if preschools were included as part of the public schools, because the children of less fortunate families may not have the opportunity to attend, therefore putting them way behind the majority of kids starting kindergarten.
