The "Melbourne Eye" (based on the London Eye Ferris Wheel) is currently being built in the docklands precinct. I managed to snap this quickly as we drove by it.

Shipping containers stacked on top of each other.

Ice cream anyone? mmmmmmm red beans......(terrible shot but you get the idea)

This is one sure fire way to get your kids to eat their veggies!

We decided on Green tea, Coconut and Lemon and ???...something or other...I forget what it was..lol.....Was lovely though and melting quickly!

So of course mark had to eat it up before it turned to soup.

Looking out towards the city over the Yarra river. Some kayaks whizzed past.

One of the fire balls spits up over the Crown Towers Hotel.

Every hour on the hour the towers spew out fire balls lighting up the bank.

Fancy a dizzying Merry Go Round ride?

Hope that ice cream doesnt come back up.

The drive back home. Whats wrong Mark? Too much ice cream and spinning?

As summer dwindles down here in Melbourne, we were treated to a really lovely day in terms of weather.

Mark spent most of the day cleaning his car in order to impress a potential buyer who was coming to take a look, while I enjoyed a much needed lazy afternoon, relaxing on the couch and playing with the boys.

After dinner we decided to head out to the docklands and take some photos of the MX5. No doubt Mark (Towside) will post up some of his shots on his blog if your interested in the results.

It was then off to South Gate (a dining and entertainments complex in the city along the Yarra River) to enjoy some interesting Japanese ice cream and attempt some more night shots. I was again left feeling very frustrated, but I know night photography is really challenging so Ill just have to keep at it.

The drive home was enjoyed with the top off (the car not mine!!!..Get your minds out of the gutter) for what could be one of the last times in that car before it sells.

ambersunsets Very interesting set! Melbourne is a lovely city, and the fire balls are cool. How was the ice cream? I've never heard of such. If I had to pick favorites, I would go with 1, 2 and 9. BTW, I think your night photos are fantastic!

etodd80 Wow, really excellent set. I have never seen a ferris wheel shot like that before! I love the red containers with the moon, the colors and composition is great. The city at night with the kayaks zooming past has such crisp color and sharpness. The merry go round shots are great too! Thanks for the awesome trip to the city at night!

oldbabe I like #1- strange structure. And #7,8,9 are great night shots if you ask me! I felt dizzy on the merry-go-round.

Now, as for ice cream, I'll pass on the mix of veggies and ice cream. I like my red beans, corn and pumpkin just fine by themselves, if you please! Ice cream is for chocolate and nuts!

And, I've never driven with the top off ;-)

lexlevans these are fantastic! i really need to get a better camera so i can shoot better night shots like you can. my fav is #2 - it basically should have a caption that says 'lex, this is exactly the type of photography you love so i saved it to your favs for you' :-)

i've always wondered what those flavors of japanese ice cream taste like - but i'm such a vanilla and choc fan that i never end up trying them.

i love the night shot with the kayaks too - i love city lights and the way they reflect off the water.

BreezyOnTheEyes alright, number 1, albeit a great shot, really freaks me out. some primal fear of Ferris Wheels combined with the incomplete structure i guess. nice job. i may need therapy ~_^

two i love. it's excellent color, lighting and shadows, and the moon just peaking out over to the right. very nicely composed.

the ice cream shots totally remind me of the weird things that i ate while in japan. including but not limited to strangely flavored ice creams and milkshakes...and corn pizza.

7 is my favorite shot ever. it's just outrageously beautiful. it's so crisp and colorful, and those little boats! i added it to my favs. the rest are also really great shots andy. you shouldn't feel depressed about your night photography! i think what you posted here really came out great. esp. 10 with the merry go round. great action. there will never be a time when you stop learning and it will always be a challenge because of that, but it is photos like these that should make you excited about future posibilities!

Zedsdead Is the docklands precinct, what used to be Port Melbourne?. I worked on the docks there, briefly, before joining Vic rail. It wasn't a 'precinct' a ferris wheel would have felt at home in, during the 70's! LOL.
