I read a book about photo blogging so I gave it a shot. I am not a technical photographer but I like to think I can take decent pics. I like to see the other pics on the site also. It's nice that nobody puts bad comments on the pics.

I join because I was looking for a way to share my photos. I've been taking lots of pictures and even my family have not seen more than 20% of them.
So now, they joined, so I can see theirs also
I also sent my friends to visit my photoblog, some joined, others go regularly and enjoy other people's posts too
Photoblog is great because it's not "the professional spot"... it's cool and you can still learn out of it and get inspired
So it's a great place to see other's shots and start friendship too....

I'm here to see the work of others and get feedback on my own. Photography is sort of a closet hobby of mine, none of my friends or family even know I have a photoblog.

Using photoblog as a place to show what I have captured or where been and also learn from others. The site has many very good contibutors and it is not full of ads.

I started doing Project 365 and I found the calender setup of this site to be ideal as I was searching for photo-hosting type places to post the results.

Since joining, I have found so many other reasons to love Photoblog. I've made some good friends here. I find that there seems to be a core group of people here who are like a family, and they are always willing to open their arms to others.

I've been exposed to cultures from all over the world here. I have friends on my list from all over the world and I love the diversity and new things I have encountered here. When I initially joined, I had no idea that this was such a richly multicultural place.

I love getting constructive feedback from others as I work to improve my skills as a photographer. It's something I have dabbled with over the years, but doing Project 365 has turned it into a far more serious study than ever before. And I like to think that through all of the practice, combined with the advice and support of my peers, I am making improvements. I have a lot of recent sets that I think turned out amazingly -- some of the photos I can hardly believe I took myself!

And of course, there is the fact that it's clean, streamlined, and not cluttered up with obnoxious ads. That sets Photoblog apart from all the rest by a long shot.

So in short, I started an account initially as a place to display my daily photos, but I have found the community and the site itself to be wonderful and that is why I will stay here forever!

when you look through the eyes of every person living on earth, you will start to get an accurate picture of the world. Reality. As you look at all the entries from all the countries, you start to feel blown away by how subjective life is, even when you think you're seeing things "as they are", you're only one pair of eyes and a brain, and you have these human limits.....what for one person is their daily reality, for another is some weird fantasy world.....take David Lynch's work. I don't think he's trying to be weird or "edgy". I think he experiences life in a certain way and tries to express it. I love looking at work on photoblog that makes me totally reevaluate the way i look at the world, the subjects i take photos of, the way i choose to frame a photo, the way i choose to process it, the way my eye sees the world. This is the best photography school for me. No lessons, just examples. No homework, just a chance to show or not show a photo, to do well or to fail, to chat with people on the other side of the world who have seen my friends, dog and kitchen sink. And this school is free. I love it here and it's given me a sense of security knowing that everything in life changes, but me photographing that life goes on no matter what.....

I came here to learn, meet people and to express my own way of doing art/photography but I learned quickly that I was very very inspired by others and in awe of others original ideas and talents and the culture thing has been wonderful too !Getting insight and little peeks into the rest of the world. I've made alot of great friends ,a few I am sure will be friends for a lifetime .. so it is a great place and what I like so much is the attitude (from MOST people of helping others .. I see potential in everyone ... and I have seen people thrive in that atmosphere ... where other places it is all about competition .. ect... and new people feel intimidated and boxed in by the so called rules.... technical is important but it isn't everything..

your help is needed...
have a look through my window and post your comments

All of the things you mentioned are valid for me. I am here for:
@ sharing where (and how) i live: http://www.photoblog.com/mysamokov/. Your support is needed...
@ As a new hobby-photographer I need both practice, advise and good examples. There are so many great works! Browsing other people's photos gives me new ideas and provokes me seeing the things in a different way.

I like the way photoblog is organized. It makes everything so easy to make, see and share. Thank you!

I've never been good at virtual communities. i am here for me first, cos lets face it we all want people to see our stuff and here seems kind of ideal. Then of course you get to know a few people from their critiques or just from plain jealousy - looking again and again at photos you can never hope to take yourself. maybe community comes later but maybe not. I was born in the wrong era to put my trust in smoke and mirrors.

I like that there is a place that is user friendly to show off my photos, and I like to look at photos around the world, so I would say both

Sometimes I get tired of talking. My photoblog gives people a way to keep up with what I'm up to and how I'm doing. I'm sometimes a little ambivalent about leaving it open to everyone, but other times, I'm gratified to see the visit counter creep up. I rarely have time to browse around the rest of the site, but when I do (like for the past hour or so), I'm always astounded by some of the great stuff I come across.

Originally I came to photblog because a friend at work turned me onto it, and I tried it out and I shared a few of my photos, and I made a few blog friends, I didn't expect to become so inspired by everyone elses work, so inspired that I wanted to buy a diffent camera, and still want to upgrade again I think I shoot more because of this site. I enjoy the comments that I get from everyone here and enjoy giving them in return. This is a very good site and I really enjoy it. Thanks Photoblog

Julia,
You're welcome. ;)

You're such a good moderator, Julia, and come up with such good questions.

My reasons are similar to those already mentioned. The first time I started here, I uploaded almost all of my photos of puppies and moose from my little Toshiba digital. When I began to peruse other photos, I deleted my blog.

After several months, I returned under my current moniker. A fascination began to develop. I borrowed one of my husband's cameras and lenses and began to see what I could learn.

Now I think I feel as much compelling emotion toward photography as I do toward web development. Plans include an online course and plenty of books.

Plus, this remarkable photoblog that Mike and Mike developed offers a community of skilled and semi-skilled photographers willing to share knowledge, helpful comments, and humor. My husband and I have a new activity to share outdoors.

Has anyone else experienced a change from the initial reasons for beginning? -Jan
