We've added an additional privacy setting that allows you to hide your email address while having your profile page open to the public. Previously only the profile page could be public or private. To adjust this setting, visit the privacy page in your account settings.

When I went into my settings to change this, I found that my email was set to 'general public', even though my profile is set to 'friends only'. I'm not too thrilled with that.
When you (PB) make changes like that, the default setting should be the tightest privacy, until the user can go in and change it him/herself.

I've just found exactly the same as G, and, like her, I'm not happy about it. I totally agree with her points about how you should manage privacy settings when you make changes.

Now, that makes perfect sense, Cathy. ;o)
I still think default settings should be the tightest possible, though, to at least protect those of us who aren't smart enough to figure out how they work lol.

Another solution is to offer a patently false one (see mine). You can always give your real one to important people who ask for it. As a pro member, I find it annoying not to be able to reply to other members (not friends) who set their privacy level to friends only. I am not going to ask to become friends just so I can reply to comments.

I agree with you Grumpy, I hate that when that happens

Cathy is right. The Profile privacy setting has first priority, and then if applicable, Email privacy is taken into account.

@ Mystic 1: you should have heard what Dopey and Sneezy said about privacy levels - and it wasn't "hi-ho"...

@Micheal
I think the e-mail privacy should also be a priority. As it is now there is no option. The e-mail address which is used to have our notifications sent to, is displayed on the profile page! The profile page account setting change is good . The e-mail account setting should also have an additional choice of "ONLY ME"
With all the discussions on the forum lately of HACKERS and IDs being compromised I think this option should be considered! The way the settings are now there is no protection for this photoblog community! Creating new e-mail accounts just for photoblog is not the solution!
