As you all know its mainly rainy in every part of our places (mostly), So I was wondering if it is possible to photograph subjects (like a car in the rain, or a flower in the rain) and appears the rain on the photograph. I've not even tried, and I've searched for some tips over the internet, but they don't give a right explanation how to do it. So I'm asking here if does anyone knows something about how to photograph a subject in the rain.
something like this:
or this:

I wouldn't risk my dslr in the rain, but if I did I would probably try using a flash or at least a narrow dof to allow as fast a shutter speed as possible (and as high an ISO level as I dared). I think in the first shot you have a rain shower in direct sunlight which isn't very common? At least not here

hey guys! thanks for the tips!
I'll be protected and the camera will not suffer any water, ;)
because i'll be safe!
oh and the 1# is common here, but in a forest i'll not be able to take a pic of something like that haha.

One of the sillier camera purchases I made was what I can only describe as a condom for SLRs (thick heavy plastic thing, cost a bomb and dumb, because for the last 15 years I've been living in either Greece or Provence, two places not famous for rainfall). A much cheaper (but not so effective) solution is to use the shower caps available in hotels. With the exception of Pentax and some high-end cameras and lenses, most SLR systems *hate* rain.

Hmm!I'll try to do it! but I really would like to have a photo like the 2#. it really amazes me!

Instructions for multi-limbed deities / monsters from cheapo "Barbarian" films taking up photography under the rain:
1. Use cosmic force / two appendages on *right* side to grasp camera
2. Use dark side / appendages on *left* side to grasp umbrella
3. Use [deleted] or additional tentacles to open beer can
4. Camera adjustments can be made by remaining limbs and/or evil drone slave / apasmaric dwarf
5. Remember not to slime over the lens.

If God had been a photographer:
1. He wouldn't have used that shockingly vulgar orange-pink in sunsets
2. He would have got that whole perspective thing right
3. He would have banned blinking
4. He would have made Canon include lens hoods and bags with their non-L lenses (admittedly, this one may be beyond even His ability)

@Tomie: Any tip? did you make that shot (which is something like I'd like to take a picture of) normally? or did you make some settings apply first?

i don't remember the setting...is an old shot and found no data, but i know you don't need hight shutter speed, as i read above. i think around 1/30 1/50s is good, that's depending of the rain. The best is to do some attemts by yourself, of course loud rain is more easy to capture...

Tomie is right Ricky. The speed of raindrops has the formula : double diameter of the raindrop in mm = m/sec
4mm raindrop falls with 8m/sec = 28 km per hour which is not that fast as I had expected.
To make them visible like in your and Tomie´s example you need a low shutter speed
Rainy pics
If I only would know how to publish a pic I would have more examples

@ Gerd: to include an image in a forum post, upload it to an old PB post (or a new one, but you'll get comments). Then view the post and right-click on the image you want to see its server details. Copy the URL of the image and then create / reply to a forum post using "Reply". At the appropriate position, click on the image icon on the right and replace the text between [img] with the paste of the image URL.

Thanks, Ricky and the other contributors, for giving me something else to think about. Living in parts of the world famous for not having much, rain has always eluded me and I've discovered it's a bastard to capture.
I thought I'd cunningly use an 8 ND filter and slow exposure and it's pissing down here for once. To make it more interesting, the fountain in the square nearest to my house is still working, bizarrely enough. No joy. This is the best I could come up with.
So, how do the rest of you capture rain (in-camera, not in post-processing)? I tried Tomie's and Gerd's settings. Maybe it's the wrong kind of rain falling here?

I'm waiting for the rain, no rain for now over here. so once it rains, I'll try it and share the result. But it is a really hard challenge, and I love challenges.
by the way Stefan, the result was not bad at all! It's a pity we can't see exactly the rain falling only the rain in the fountain. I'm afraid I'll get the same result when I try it. but let's see!
