This is probably the longest running complaint about this site.... I wouldn't hold your breath.

[Thin reedy voice of old-timer]: Hark'ee, I recall that terrible winter back in '08 when the spectre of dissent first made its appearance here about page layouts. And all in vain...

Seriously, I have bitched about this many times and later realised that even serious "art photography" sites don't do much better. Blame Sir Tim.

One option much approved by sadists like me with shares in chiropractic businesses is to post panoramas vertically and ask people to tilt their heads / laptops accordingly.

The empty space is laid out for us non-pro accounters to be entertained by adverisements.....

For pro account holders, the blank space helps us think very, very, very big thoughts.

Honestly, photo sites are using web 1.0 proportions designed for screen resolutions now exceeded by mobile phones...

I have 4 inches of space on either side of the ads... that can't be the reason.

Well, you'll just have to make do with slightly smaller thoughts, Marjorie. And I hope I'm wrong in assuming I'm not the first man to tell you that four inches is actually quite a lot.

Assumptions are usually dangerous things Stéfan.... and I have the same big thoughts as you pros, I just zip 'em... ;)

And do you find four inches satisfactory? When you add the four on either side, you get to eight inches. Most people are usually content with eight, so I've been told.

Wasted none the less......

My page must be a special one designed just for me. It is filled with Ads!

Thanks Phil, that's some useful information... just installed adblocker on Chrome, works a treat... now what to do with all that extra space.... ;)

I too would like to see landscape photos displayed larger. The portrait display is so much more impressive.

In fairness to the PB administrators, other sites focusing on 'serious' art photography scarcely do better. I do agree, however, but I know that this is a wish which is unlikely to come true.
