Hi,

Firstly, Photoblog is an amazing site and the team back there is doing a great job to keep this place nice and clean. Kudos to you all.

However, I feel it would be nice to add an option to be able to follow or track the entries made by friends.

As in for example there is some Mr. X and I generally like the entries of him and i tend to check out all the entries posted by him. So i just register to follow his posts and every time Mr. X adds a new entry I receive a notification on my homepage saying "Mr. X added a new entry" or something like that. This saves me the efforts to go to the friends list and check the entries.
This may or may not be limited only to friends based on the policies that you follow at Photoblog.

Also I am not sure about how much would you all appreciate this thought nor do I know if we already have this mechanism in place but I would love if we can have something like this in place.

Regards,
Apurv.

PS - If we do have something like this in place then do educate me I am kinda new here...!

I believe you can subscribe to someone's blog, there is an icon on the lower left of each post beside the RSS feed icon.

I think you're asking for the PB equivalent of a watchlist. I don't know about others, but I use my friends' list to do what you're requesting. My front page shows the latest posts by my friends. I can click on browse latest to see all new posts. I try to keep the number of members in my friends' list manageable (difficult) and I always reject friend requests from people who have hundreds of 'friends' - mostly because I'm old enough to think the word 'friend' still has some meaning, even on the Internet.

Several requests have been made over the years (by me, among others) for something like 'groups sharing the same interests' (e.g. macro photography) or another kind of filter. I don't think PB has the resources to do it, so we've developed our own workarounds. For example, people contributing to the Mass Observation Project or the Tuesday Initiative tag their posts and you can search using a specific tag (if you know it). I'm afraid it's manual; you'll have to keep on making an effort. The same applies, slightly differently, to the RSS feeds mentioned elsewhere in this thread.

Photoblog isn't RedBubble (which does have groups and watchlists). Nor, thank goodness, is it Facebook.

Don't expect an "official" response any time soon. In the meantime, the friends function is a great way to join in the community and enjoy other people's posts.

@revenant: thank you very much, I'll try to put something like that as well in place and see if it works. And i do not know about RedBubble but I am glad the PB aint any where close to Facebook

@passerine: yup, i did see that option in the settings but i suppose nothing can be done in that case except for checking for updates manually! But ya, if nothing works then i do away with the email notifications.

@McMommy: Hmm.. must be the email thing that passerine mentioned. But i do have a couple of work arounds here... I'll see which one works the best for me...

Thank you all for your help..
