I was wondering if, generally speaking, people would rather receive comments on their blogs or responses to comments they leave. I guess if anyone on my friend's list sees this and wants to respond, that would be best. I ask because I just rarely have time for both. I prefer to cruise around, scope out all of your posts and comment on them then to spend my time thanking you for your comments. I try to respond, but sometimes I just don't have the time.
Anyway, just wanting your thoughts.

Good question. I do both, I comment a lot, but I admit to not being as on top of it as I used to be, so I find myself cruising for a few day and then doing a blitz to catch up.. or not, sometimes... I love getting comments, and I always reply to them, but I know many people don't. I don't have an answer I guess. Regardless of anything else, I always answer comments to my blog.

I always will answer questions! Then I will look at all my friends Photos and enjoy their posts and comment on photos that call out to me. Sometimes a quick comment other times when I have more time and am in the mood (to express from my passion of the art of photography we all share here) Comment on what the photo says to me, means to me, or just speak out of what beauty I see that the photographer captured.
I am inspired to shoot different things by looking at everyone's different styles here.
And I enjoy seeing comments on my photos to see what people like.

Due to my job and the fact that I am working in a new country which has to be explored photographically I don´t find the time to comment or answer on comments as I did earlier. Although I try to comment at least the posts of my friends which appear on FP. Nevertheless I am grateful to those of my friends who despite my quietness still commenting on my photos.

I have come to the conclusion that the best use of my limited time is to make comments on the pictures that move me in some way. I used to thank people for their comments, but have come to the conclusion that this doesn't really have a great deal of purpose. I hope that people will know by now that I am grateful for their input.
I have to admit that when I recently had fp and many lovely comments, I did a copy and paste job to quite a lot of the comments that I received.
Questions I will always try and answer.

I think all of us are happy if one of our friends leaves a comment on one of our photos, especially if this is not a bargaining chip (obligatory), but only the desire to express an opinion. I also believe it is more useful to each of us getting feedback better than a (too) simple "good", "cute", "wonderful." For example, if some of you like one of my photos, but thinks it is too dark or overexposed, or the colors are not perfect, I prefer to know this, so I think about this and improve myself.
None of us has time to look at all the photos of friends and also respond to all comments it receives, but if I receive a comment I'm glad, because I think that those who left had the pleasure of commenting. So I should not feel obliged to thank, and I can dedicate the time to discover other interesting photographs. And I agree with Sadhya (as always), sometimes time is limited, so we focus on images that move ourselves for some reason, and it's nice stopping and looking at these images and explain to our friend why his/her picture has moved ourselves.

This is a blog, a place where individuals come to express themselves. The community spirit of this site makes it unusual, but the same premise applies. In my increasingly infrequent posts here, I upload, write my text, post and look around, firstly at my friends' posts and then at any thumbnail / title that grabs my fancy.

Even with friends' posts I will occasionally visit and not leave a comment. It may come as a surprise to some here, but if I feel I have nothing constructive or amusing to say, I don't. It certainly does not mean I dislike like the post or the member who posted it, and I'm pretty certain my good friends here don't feel slighted.

My posts average out at a hundred-plus visits each. Google analytics informs me that the average time spent per visitor is under 30 seconds. People look and move on.

On my profile there is this:

"Feel free to criticise the photography. For anything else, don't bother. "

That's exactly how I want it to be.

I quickly grew tired of the 'awesome post' comments, so much so that I parodied it two years ago. (You can read it here.) It came as a surprise to discover that even in sites / communities with a much stronger emphasis on technical / artistic expertise than at PB, the standard comment is... "awesome post!".

I am very grateful for EVERY comment I get but I don´t have time to always thank for the comments I receive. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don´t - time is the limit here.
I love to visit my friends blogs and comment there - I do it regularly, because I want to stay in touch and it is fascinating to observe their world and life amd work this way

I rarely thank my comments, I think it's nice to say thanks, but not necessary to say always thank you i reply the comments (as answering) when they ask or say something and i'd like to say something else.
Also I usually don't comment to receive a comment, Now I don't have much time to comment, so I kinda do like Sashya, and when I am here I browse the posts and comment on some which I feel like! I know my friends won't be mad, I'll visit them sooner or later ;)

Most comments are nice.

Some are nicer than others.

"Awsome" isn't awsome, but it can be pleasing.

Constructive criticism may be more useful.

But, nit everybody wants to be critiqued.

In response to Feby's question, I've always thought that photogs who leave comments on my post would rather that I went to their posts and commented on what they were photographing more than they would appreciate my cuttiing-and-pasting "Thanks for your visit" in response. Like you, I don't have the time to comment AND reply, so I choose to comment and assume they know I appreciate their visit. I never care when people don't reply to my comments, unless I ask a specific question of them. Plus, by going to their posts, I get to see what they are seeing through their cameras that day, rather than seeing what other people replied to them! I think it's a fair trade for me - I hope others understand! brenda

This same question seems to keep coming up about comments and replies. Comments are not always necessary on every blog you visit, but it is a thoughtful gesture that lets people know you took a moment to acknowlege them and their photos. Replies are considerate responses and polite answers, much the same as you do when you meet someone in your everyday life. How you respond to others is how you will be responded to as well.

Cyber world is a faceless place and interaction has become less than a one word response and in many instances a no word response.
"PHOTOBLOG" hummmm just what does that mean anyway?

If i see a blog which makes me stop and look it's usually for a reason so I comment. As for friends I do try and always comment even if it is something short and sweet so they at least know I am there and looking.

As for replies I think it is just polite to make the effort to acknowledge the visitor to my blog even if only to say thank you. I would never hold it against someone for not replying to me, and I don't comment just to recieve one back but I feel that I need to reply. I do also try and visit whoever left me a comment also.

I also often don't have a lot of time, I probably nose around on here more when I'm at work but it might only be for fleeting moments.

I think what I'm trying to say is I like to receive comments and I like to give and/or reply to comments but I'm here primarily just to share my photos so the commenting bit is just a bonus.

Firstly I miss you posting .
I try to answer comments with a thank you but sometimes I don't .
I wish I knew more technically to give a constructive criticism more often .
So it is more what is pleasing to my eyes I reply to and very often short comments which I know some like and others dont.
I am being more choosy now after years here and sometimes don't comment at all.
I am not offended if some of my " friends" don't comment
The only one I like always to comment on is my sister's but she doesn't post very often so that is pretty easy for me, different for her to comment on all mine all of the time, she is a busy working Mum .
I think Sadhya has the right measure being more of an expert I'd say.

Well I did in the beginning. I thanked every one in guestbook and always returned comments when someone comment me.
And I still do. I miss sometimes when it gets to much but always thank in post if I know I missed out.
My mum told me be polite and always say thanks when you receive something so I can`t ignore and not say thanks. I noticed more lately here people often don't thank me for what I give or comment back. I wont cry because of that though and wont get upset
I`m happy for every comment I get and every thanks I receive and what others do its up to them
I will keep give as long as I like their pictures and their blogs

I try to comment on as many photos as I can - as I like to see what people are doing and what they are snapping. And then I want that person to know that I have seen their pic and my thoughts - short or long on it. I feel its nice to know that the photos are being seen and appreciated even just a one word comment is appreciated (by me).
