I recently purchased a Pentax K100d digital SLR. I can highly recommend this camera!
It takes four AA batteries.... "hmmm", I remember thinking "surely a
real digital SLR doesn't take AA's?" Many people saw this as a pro (low on power? nip into a service station and grab some AAs!) and some people saw it as a con (propriatory batteries hold more power!)
I was a bit skeptical... I saw AA's as the biggest negative with this camera.
The cheap alkeline AAs I got with the camera literally lasted a couple of shots! Hmmm... I put in some fresh Alkeline batteries, a bit better performance, but not much.
I had some rechargable AAs and a charger that I got with my Sony compact digital. Tried those. Not bad. But after a dozen shots the battery indicator would show "50%". After a few dozen more shots, I would have to trick the camera by turning it off for a seconds, then back on.
I bought a fresh pack of some Sony rechargable batteries, because my research suggested they were good. Better - but similair performance. I grumbled, and thought, not brilliant performance but I can cope.
I bought a brand spanking new super battery charger (Maha Powerex C801D). Fantastic charger! Highly recommended.
I "recycled" the batteries (charges, depletes, then charges)... no performance improvement.
OK. More research.... many people bragged about Energizer AA rechargables.
lol.... to cut a long story shot
Energizer AAs rock!
I bought a 4 pack of Energizer AA's from the local supermarket for $AU 25. I was skeptical.
I took a couple of hundred shots. They still show 100% power.
I took some more. I used the flash. I occasionally picked the camera up, put it on continuous shooting mode, and clicked randomly. I used the flash lots. It still says 100%!
If you need AA rechargables, I highly recommend Energizer.
Hell, I may even post a cheesy image of me proudly displaying a pack of them! That's how impressed I am.
(technical note: my Sony batteries were 2300mAh, and then I tried 2500mAh, the Energizers are 2500mAh)
